Maria Barbu, 17, died earlier this week in her home in Brasov, Central Romania according to the Austrian Times while engaged in a mammoth Twitter session. It seems that she climbed into the bathtub with her laptop and after draining the battery dropped it while trying to plug it in again.
Clearly a contender for the next Darwin Awards.
Mashable says that Twitter’s “phenomenal” growth has stopped with only a small 1.5% growth over the last month but I’m not sure visits to twitter.com is an accurate measurement. With my own adoption of Twitter I quickly grew out of the web-based interface and now almost tweet exclusively through TweetDeck.
I also have a couple of Twitter-based web projects in the pipeline both of which will allow tweeting through the API. Therefore, I’m currently under the radar.
I’d have thought that any large Twitter user is not going to use the Twitter site so if you’re really trying to measure Twitter’s adoption, it’s probably better to go by Tweet volume alone but I’m sure nobody has ascertained an accurate method for estimating or monitoring that.
In case you didn’t know NameCheap are having a trivia competition over the next 15 days through Twitter and there are a lot of active participants. NameCheap’s account on Twitter lists nearly 8,000 followers so with 360 questions and 3 prizes being awarded, there’s a 1-in-8 chance of winning a prize.
The fastest two correct answers get a prize and another person is selected at random from the correct answers. Therefore, it makes you wonder if it’s fair and how could it be hacked.
